A preliminary meeting to set up a flower club in Hucknall was held on 22nd November 1976. At that meeting the ten friends made proposals for the structure, name, purpose & financial structure for such a club & generously each loaned a sum of money to get it started. After a second meeting of the friends an inaugural meeting was held on 17th February 1977 at the Church Hall Ogle Street, where the Hucknall Flower Arranging Group was formed. It was agreed to charge a yearly subscription of £1.50, with visitors being charged 25 pence a meeting! It was also agreed that meetings would be held on the first Wednesday of each month. A committee was set up until the first General Meeting was held where a constitution was agreed and an elected committee was formed.

Hucknall Flower Arranging Group still meets on the first Wednesday of each month. However, our fees have gone up slightly since 1977, but are still good value at £40.00 for one year’s subscription and a charge of £6.00 for visitors (with the exception of our Christmas demo).

Over the year we have on average seven demonstrations, usually by regional or national demonstrators, two workshops, one party night in December and an AGM in January. At each meeting we have a raffle, the prizes usually being the arrangements made by the demonstrator, and a sales table.

Over the years we have organised visits to places of interest, including trips to the Royal Horticultural Society Gardens at Harlow Carr in Yorkshire, Melbourne House in Derbyshire, the Yorkshire Lavender Fields, Floral Media at Caunton & Ely Cathedral Flower Festival

The purpose of the club remains the same as it was for those first friends in 1976 – to promote the art and enjoyment of flower arranging and flowers.
